This was written by my friend, Iceclaw. I fully agree with it.
I’ve noticed that the standard RP on this site isn’t exactily at a level everyone is alright with. The members seem to have their own stlye of RPing, and when someone else is trying to RP, it can be hard to understand. I suggest that we all try to find and follow a certain standard to that everyone writes with the same style, and nobody gets confused. I prepose that everyone tries to RP using the following format: - Speaking in the Correct Tense - Speaking in the Correct Person - Post Length Limit - Cooperation and Communication
Speaking in the Correct Tense Most RP sites are in past tense and same for fan-fics, the Warriors books themselves are even written in past tense. I believe that here we’re doing a pretty good job at keeping things in past tense, but I’m it would be a good idea to freshen-up on the subject. Past tense describes events as though they had already happened, but as if they are being written, not told. In past tense, words such as ‘was’, ‘as’ and the ‘-ed’ endings are used to show that it is in past tense.
Example: Hawkfrost stepped into the clearing with his head and tail held high. He ignored the hostile glare coming from Firestar’s daughters, as they conversed in at the edge of the clearing. “Brambleclaw!” he meowed, as he called out to his brother. “Did you speak with Tigerstar last night?” he asked, dropping his voice to a whisper.
Speaking in the Correct Person Speaking it third person omniscient is like speaking in third person, only including thoughts and feelings. The Warriors books, I believe, are written in this format, allowing you to understand how a certain character feels about a situation without letting the narrator be involved in any way.
Example: Cinderpelt slowly arose from her slumber, but she still felt as though she hadn’t gotten any sleep. There’s so much work to do. She thought as she shook the moss from her pelt. ”Wake up.” she meowed to her apprentice, Leafpaw. I’ll let her sleep, she’s been doing a lot of work lately too. She decided.
Post Length Limit Short posts do not usually give much detail, and it’s often hard to RP after someone who has posted a short post.
For Example: A post such as ‘The apprentice followed the two warriors.’ Is much harder to RP after than ‘Squirrelpaw slowly followed the older warriors out of camp. She was already in trouble, but she didn’t care, she wanted to know where they were going. She followed them through the pines and up to twolegplace. Why are they going here? She thought as she listned to their conversation.’
Now I will admit, when I’ve been rushed, I’ve posted simple one- liners. However, if all of us RP with more detail and stop posting one-liners the RP would be much more interesting and much easier to follow.
Cooperation and Communication If we wnt this RP to be a good one, and we want the story to flow, we need to cooperate. If more than one person wants their charrie to be mates with one of your charries, figure it out. If someone wants their charrie to do something or doesn’t want any of the other charries to do something, we all have to come to an agreement on something. Communication is very important if we want to stay on the right track; if you need to ask someone something about their character, PM them or leave a message in the cbox. Don’t make a post such as “… and then the warrior sank their teeth into the rouges neck… (((Hey, *insert name here*, is it OK if I kill your charrie?)))” That kind of post can get people confused, and prevent people from continueing the RP until everything gets cleared up. If you want to ask someone about their charrie, do it before you post.
